Yesterday, we visited
Città dei Ragazzi (Boys Town) in Rome--actually, it's a few longish bus rides outside the center. We were given a tour of the town, learned about its structural aspects (education, self-governance), and were educated on the founding. While Father Flanagan is the historic face of
Boys Town in the U.S., Father Carroll-Abbing, an Irish priest, is responsible for the founding of Città dei Ragazzi in Rome. There is also a Girls Town,
Città delle Ragazze, that was established when American actress Linda Darnell donated funds for Carroll-Abbing to do for the poverty-stricken girls of Rome what he had done for the boys.
